District Health Information System Version 2 Course Outline

Health Information Systems Program (HISP-Uganda) in Collaboration with Makerere Univesity College Of Computing and Information Sciences (Mak-CIS) and the Global HISP Network is offering the following courses:

Module 1: Introduction to routine health information systems (RHS) in public health

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide trainees that do not have a health information systems background with basic knowledge, skills and applied competencies. The module is mainly for people intending to work in the public health environment as data capturers, health information officers or monitoring and evaluation officers. The module aims at providing basic definitions and commonly used terminologies of RHIS in DHIS2. This is a foundation course for individuals seeking a firm foundation in health informatics for developing a career as health information practitioners. 

Target group: People in entry level positions in health informatics, monitoring and evaluation, and supervisors.
Admission Requirements: Minimum Advanced level Certificate or an equivalent. No data management experience required.
Duration: 40 Hours

Module 2: Electronic Health Information Systems Implementation using DHIS2

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to equip participants with the necessary skills to build information systems using DHIS2. The module is highly practical and focuses on building of an actual system in small groups by the end of the training on mobile or web platforms. 
Target group: Data capturers/officers, health information officers, database administrators, systems analysts, consultants, district health data/information officers, M&E officers, and health project managers
Admission Requirements: Minimum Advanced level Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a fair working knowledge of data management and health information systems. Completion of Module 1 may be required.
Duration: 40 Hours
Programmes: This course is offered as a one week five day workshop.

Module 3: Data Analysis and Presentation using DHIS2

Purpose: The purpose of this module is to provide participants with skills to analyze, present and interpret data using DHIS2 Analytic tools. The module gives an in-depth use of DHIS2 to for data visualization using tables, graphs and maps. This course is highly practical and is based on a large data set to allow meaningful analysis, presentation and interpretation. 
Target group: Data capturers/officers, health information officers, database administrators, systems analysts, consultants, district health data/information officers, M&E officers, and health project managers.
Admission Requirements: Minimum Advanced level Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a fair working knowledge of data management and health information systems. Completion of Module 2 may be required.

Admission Requirements: Minimum Advanced level Certificate or an equivalent qualification with a fair working knowledge of data management and health information systems. Completion of Module 2 and 3 may be required.
