The College Principal, Prof. Ikoja Odongo has urged academic members of staff to develop online content for their courses since Makerere University is now moving towards having more academic programmes taught online. The Principal made this call during a workshop held on June 17th, 2011 to discuss ways of improving the quality of teaching and learning in the College.
He noted that having more online courses would enable the university offer education to more Ugandans and thus expand the country’s human resource base.
Speaking at the same workshop, Dr. John Ngubiri, the Deputy Principal encouraged the academicians to equip the students with essential soft skills including communication, entrepreneurial, work ethics, social consciousness and etiquette. “These skills will enable the students become easily socialized into different work environments,” he added.
The lecturers noted that adopting new teaching strategies like Problem-Based Learning/School Centered Learning (SCL) and capacity building workshops that equip academic staff with new pedagogical skills would help improve the quality of teaching and learning in the College.
