As we celebrate the formation of CoCIS after the merger of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics Technology and the East African School of Library and Information Sciences, it is imperative to understand that this union better positions us to critically address emerging issues in Computing, Informatics Technology, Library and Information Sciences. You are aware that new information technologies are changing societal needs, so CoCIS is positioning itself to be the leading institution of choice for local and international students intending to achieve academic excellence in computing and information sciences.
CoCIS offers a wide range of courses at Bachelor, Masters and PhD levels including the diploma and certificate courses. These courses are designed to enable our students gain comprehensive practical, multidisciplinary skills and undertake innovative research that meets the demands of the current society. As a College, we aspire to attain cutting-edge technology and specialized labs, coupled with highly-skilled and talented full-time staff that maximize their potential in teaching and research to equip our students with the most sought after professional skills, making them very competitive on the local and international job markets. The practicability of our courses positions our students to become leaders and entrepreneurs in various professions instead of being job-seekers.
The College is internationally recognized for its research projects and innovations that have enabled our staff and students win local, regional and international awards. An Innovations Centre, soon to be set up by Microsoft will greatly accelerate our dream to be a research-driven institution as we attain academic excellence and enrich society.
We have attracted strategic collaborations with institutions like Microsoft, Google, IBM, Nokia, the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation (Nuffic) and the Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology. The College is partnering with leading academic institutions which include Radboud University Nijmegen, Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, University of Tennessee, University of Bergen and University of Cape Town. In addition, we are in the process of strengthening collaborative agreements on teaching and research with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).
CoCIS shall continue to seek out the latest developments in Computing and Information Sciences and engage in mutually beneficial partnerships with various industry players in order to discover, integrate and disseminate knowledge that befits the needs of a rapidly changing era.
