The College of Computing and Information Sciences was selected as one of the three Colleges in Makerere University to partner and collaborate with the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU), Germany. The areas of collaboration will include enhancing professional capacity of staff and students through training, staff exchanges, joint research ventures etc. In his brief remarks during the workshop Prof. Oyana (Principal) concurred that a partnership had been agreed upon between both institutions. He went on further to reassure the team from KU that the College certainly had the necessary human resource, infrastructure etc. to address the areas of collaboration and looked forward to its implementation. His counterpart representing KU Prof. Dr. Setzer (Chair of Business Informatics, KU) thanked the Principal for the warm welcome and also welcomed the partnership and was fully committed in exploring all the different areas of expertise between the two institutions.
In cementing this collaboration the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU) conducted a workshop at the College of Computing & IS on the 10th October 2018. The workshop was held by Prof. Dr. Setzer on the topic of “Digitalization with special focus on data-based business models”. The objective of the workshop was to develop and present (pitch) a digital business model that targeted Master’s and Doctoral degree students with prior knowledge and interest in the areas of information systems engineering, data analytics and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Setzer structured the workshop by asking participants to form groups of three to jointly develop their own business model concepts following an introductory one hour lecture which introduced the basic aspects of digitalization and in particular data-based business models. The groups then presented a final pitch of their business models using feedback from their group discussions.
