These state of art technology facilities  are open to students, professional software developers, IT professionals, entrepreneurs and academic researchers. The broader areas of focus in the MIC network include;

In May, 2011 Microsoft Approved the establishment of a Microsoft Innovation Center in Uganda in light of the growing ICT industry in the country. While the MIC program covers a wide number of areas, MIC Uganda for the year 2011/2012 wil focus on the following activities in the domain of Accelerating Students to Business, and Ideas to Solutions.  The choice of the areas of focus is motivated by the unique opportunities offered by the large numbers of students graduating or enrolled in the Computer Science and related fields in the country. For example the College of Computing and Information Sciences alone has over 6,000 students on its undergraduate programs with another 500 on graduate programs. These numbers exclude the over 4000 students that are trained at the College every year in professional skills like the Microsoft IT Academy programs.  In specific terms the MIC Uganda will carry out activities in the following areas;

  1. Imagine Cup competitions

The College of Computing and Information Sciences (CoCIS) has received an award for having the best Cisco Academy Sustainability Model on the African continent. The award was announced by Hital Muraj, the Cisco Academy Area Manager and Technical Manager for Africa during the recent Cisco Academy Conference held at the University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

The College, which has over 6,000 students was also recognized for having the largest academy in Africa in terms of student numbers. In addition, CoCIS Cisco Regional Academy was identified as the best regional academy in East and Central Africa for innovativeness in Local Academy Support Framework.

Commenting on the award, Drake Patrick Mirembe, Head Center for Professional Skills Development in CoCIS under which the Cisco Academy falls noted that the success was a team effort right from the top College management who have provided enabling policies and financial support to the academy to facilitate the purchase of equipment, programme promotion and training of instructors, to the Academy instructors who offer dedicated service to our clients.

He added that the large number of student enrollment in the academy was a result of the positive feedback the students get from their peers about the quality of training they receive from the College’s knowledgeable Cisco Certified Instructors. This award is a testimony of the quality of service delivered by our instructors, lab custodians and the ICT services support team who made the training of students a memorable experience.
