My name is Komuhendo Juliet, a Computer Science Finalist.
I got an opportunity to attend the Google Europe, Middle East and Africa retreat 2011 at the Google office   in Zurich, Switzerland as an Anita Borg EMEA Finalist on 20th -22nd June 2011. In attendance were 90  students from the Google Anita Borg EMEA scholars and finalists, Google-Zawadi scholarship recipients and  Google Europe students with disabilities. Three of the attendees were Ugandans: the other two study at  the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
During the retreat we participated in a series of activities ranging from workshops, office tours, poster shows  and technical talks from various Google Software Engineers, Research Scientists and Systems Administrators.
Being a Google scholarship Finalist was an important achievement which has raised my profile in the scientific  community. The retreat boosted my confidence to pursue high goals, believing that I can achieve them.
Designing a product during the workshop, while working in a team whose members had never met each  other before, and sharing ideas together to come up with a product at the end was very interesting. I had  the chance to meet Googlers and people with common interests from different cultures and I am still in  touch with them. I enjoyed the time we spent together and the places we visited which I‘ve had no  chance to go to before
As an Anita Borg affiliate, I have had the honor of meeting exceptional female computer scientists; which has opened my mind and given me a wider perspective in Computer Science.. Am looking forward to applying for the Scholarship when I join the Masters programme.
I encourage all students in the computing field, especially female students, to apply for this and many other scholarships. Anita Borg was an excellent computer scientist and drove women to excel in technology.
