Makerere develops an App for new vision
Students at Makerere University are developing an app that shall help monitor most of the activities in the newsroom. Through an MOU with Makerere University, the students are supposed to develop an app for New Vision that should help eliminate most of the challenges experienced in the media house. They are developing an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system shat shall help eliminate most of the challenges of newsroom management.
The app shall be able to standardize operations in newsrooms and regulate journalist’s claims for facilitation, news count for freelance journalists, managing human resource and harmonizing operations. The journalists can ask for facilitation from anywhere instead of going back to the media house to sign for it. The app is also going to save a lot on paperwork and stationary. This increases efficiency in media houses especially on fraud detection to editors and reporters where they can’t account for funds given
The CEO has privilege of monitoring all the activities in the media house and can approve, hold or decline applications from editors and sub editors. The editors have the privilege of monitoring reporters’ activity on the count of stories they do, the claims and rating of reporters where the system counts the news stories that run. This makes reporters be on their toes since the system can notice lazy journalists and warn them. The system equally rewards goods journalists when their news count is healthy.
